2018-19 OPTIONS Program Change
Ending OPTIONS Program
This is a notice that as of June 4th, 2018, there will be major changes to the online alternative education OPTIONS program. Currently we offer an online at-home and an online at-school version of OPTIONS. As of June 4th, both programs will be terminated. The main reason for this change is the lack of academic success of our online students. Willamina School District cannot support a program where an overwhelming majority of students are not meeting attendance or academic criteria. All OPTIONS students will need to enroll as a full-time on-campus student next year.
About the new LEAD Program
Our goal at Willamina High School is to help all students succeed in their education whether in a traditional or on-line setting. If you are interested in joining one of our Life Education for Alternative Directions (LEAD) programs, please complete an application. Your application will be reviewed by a committee which will include teachers, aides, and administrators. Candidates will be selected on individual and academic needs. We look forward to seeing you on campus and assisting you in your educational needs.
LEAD Choices for the 2018-19 School Year
For those students that wish to continue their education through an alternative online setting, Willamina School District will offer three programs that are limited by space and by individual need.
SOAR - Online at home: Open to Juniors and Seniors only. If a student was online during the 2017-2018 school year and wishes to be on line at home, they must have earned 1.5 credits per every 9 weeks that they were enrolled online. In other words, if the student was not successfully earning credits for the 2017-18 school year, then the online at home program will not be available next year.
LEAD - Full day online at school: Open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors only. There will be 10 slots available for a full day of self contained online education setting on the high school campus. Student will be in one classroom during regular school hours where they will receive assistance as needed from the instructor for online courses. Attendance and academic progress must be maintained during enrollment. Anyone not meeting the academic and or attendance requirements will be removed from the program at semester. Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors only.
LEAD ON - Half day online school/ half day general education: Open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors only. This program will blend online school and traditional school. Students will be in one classroom for half of the regular school day where they will receive assistance as needed from the instructor for online courses and half of the day in traditional classes. These traditional school courses will be assigned by a counselor to best match the student’s goals and interests. Students will either have AM online classes and PM traditional school or have the opposite, AM traditional school and PM online classes. This program has a potential maximum of 30 students (15 in the AM and 15 in the PM) if scheduling cooperates.
Application Instructions
To enter the LEAD program, a student must fill out an application on why they would make a good candidate for the program. A selection committee made up of teachers, aides, and administrators will review the applications and select those individuals that best fit the programs. If chosen to participate in one of our LEAD programs, we will contact you to meet with administration to discuss your educational needs and goals. Space is limited for these programs and all students are required to meet the attendance and academic criteria. The administration has the ability to revoke enrollment of anyone not meeting the academic, attendance, or behavior requirements. Entry and withdrawal are only accepted at the semester change.
Please complete the LEAD Application and turn into the High School Office. Applications are also available at the office. The application needs to be submitted by August 10th, 2018.
We look forward to getting your students back on campus where we truly feel that we can have the greatest impact on their learning. We are excited to offer a new and innovative way of blending online teaching with that of traditional school. If you have questions or would like to know other educational opportunities for your student, please do to hesitate to call.
