A Season of Growth and Reflection

As we move past spring break, the blooming flowers and trees remind us of the growth we see in our students. With state testing just around the corner, we’re reflecting on how we’ve used the data from these assessments in the past to shape our courses and better prepare our students for the high-stakes moments ahead. These tests give us valuable insight into where we stand, both as individuals and as a school, helping us not only compare ourselves to a larger population but also better support our students as they face the challenges that lie ahead.

Our goal has always been to compete on a national level while staying true to our roots in the West Valley. The humility and dedication our students have shown this year continue to impress me. It’s evident in their academic growth and their ability to embrace challenges head-on.

School leaders are setting final goals for both classes and individual students, like ensuring students are reading at grade level before they move to the next grade or helping those who need additional support in math. This is a community-wide effort, and your support as families and members of our community is invaluable in this mission.

As I always say, “It ain’t over until it’s over!” Our seniors, in particular, are entering the final stretch. Many have recently been interviewed by staff about their post-graduation plans, and I’m proud to say that many are on their way to exciting opportunities. Some have been accepted into major colleges, others will begin two-year or trade programs, and a number will continue their studies at Chemeketa College. Chemeketa’s local offerings are an excellent option for students to build confidence while saving money, often at no cost,  before transitioning to a larger institution later.

Today, as I walked through classrooms, teachers were already discussing final grades and what students need to do to finish strong. We’re entering the final quarter, and it’s crucial that we work together to finish this year on a positive note. Conferences are coming up soon, and I encourage you to attend and discuss your student’s progress and how you can continue to support them through the home stretch.

Thank you for your continued support—let’s finish this year strong!

Sincerely,
Mike Gass
